What Realestate courses are required in Ontario to get your license?

In order for you to have a successful career in real estate in Ontario, it is essential to be well qualified for the job and to obtain your Ontario real estate license. The job of a real estate agent or broker is not just to bridge the gap between the buyer and seller of a property.

The agent or salesperson needs to be very proficient in preparing the paperwork and important documents related to the sale and help your client in closing the sale without any issues. To be well acquainted with real estate field and understand all the intricacies of this field, aspiring agents need to successfully complete a detailed and selection of courses related to real estate in Ontario.

Start your journey towards becoming a real estate salesperson.

To obtain a real estate license in Ontario, Canada, you generally need to:

  1. Education: Complete the required pre-registration courses from a real estate college approved by the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).

  2. Exam: Successfully pass the Real Estate Salesperson Program Exam.

  3. Registration: Apply for registration with RECO within two years of completing your pre-registration courses.

  4. Background Check: Undergo a criminal record check.

  5. Costs: Expect costs for pre-registration courses, exam fees, registration fees, and potential additional expenses for materials.

  6. Time: The time to complete the process varies but may take several months from starting the courses to obtaining your license.

  7. Dedication: Dedicate time to studying, attending classes, and preparing for the exam.

  8. Experience: No prior real estate experience is usually required, but some employers may prefer candidates with related experience.

  9. Commitment: Real estate can demand irregular hours, so be prepared for flexibility and commitment.

  10. Money: Besides the cost of education and licensing, have funds available to cover initial expenses before earning commissions.

The Pre-Registration Phase is your first step towards becoming a real estate salesperson in Ontario. You must complete this first phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program before applying for registration with RECO. This phase comprises of 5 courses, 4 exams and 2 simulation sessions which must be completed sequentially as shown below. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete pre-registration.

5 Getting Started
*It is important to note that prior to registering in any given Course, Exam, or Simulation Session, learners must successfully complete the corresponding pre-requisite. For example, prior to registering in Exam 1, a learner must successfully complete Course 1. Similarly, prior to registering in Course 2, a learner must successfully pass Exam 1; and so on.
