The Provincial Government has Set the 2012 Rental Property Maximum Increase Guideline |

| The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has released the province's rent increase guideline for 2012. The 2012 guideline will be 3.1 per cent. For previous years' increase guidelines, please see the table below. | |

These are the latest maximum rental increase guidelines Year Guideline Under the Residential Tenancy Act and the law, the maximum allowable
rental increase in 2011 has been fixed at 0.7 per cent. The new rent
increase guideline applies to a rent increase that begins any time between
January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 http://www.ltb.gov.on.ca/en/Key_Information/STDPROD_067677.html SAMPLE RENT INCREASE GUIDELINEThe monthly rent of an apartment is $800 beginning August 1, 2010. With proper written 90 days notice to the tenant, the landlord could lawfully increase the rent 12 months later on August 1, 2011. The guideline for 2011 is 0.7 per cent.
The guideline applies to most private residential rental accomodation covered by the Tenant Protection Act, 1997. The guideline does not apply to residential dwellings first occupied (by any owner or tenant) on or after November 1, 1991.
