Milton is the perfect combination of old and new, and given its great growth rate, there are many new neighbourhoods that have been and are being built on what were once farmer’s fields. It is from these fields that are being developed that the recent and planned growth will come from. “Old Milton” is very distinguishable from “New Milton” by the styles and architecture of the homes, the larger property sizes and the more mature trees and landscaping. There are traditional 2 storey homes and bungalows, and also a mix of sidesplits, backsplits and 1 ½ storey homes. Many of the homes have finished basements and some have pools. You will notice the charm and character of these neighbourhoods when you drive down the streets. These areas are known as Milton North - MN, Old Milton - OM, Dorset Park -DP, Timberlea - TM and Bronte Meadows – BM.
“New Milton” has sprung up in the past 8 years and these “new” neighbourhoods of Main Street Village, Hawthorne Village, Milton Trails, Traditions are broken down into the following sub-districts known as Dempsey - DE, Clarke - CL, Beaty - BE, Coates - CO, Wilmott - WI, Hawthorne - HA, and Scott – SC. The major builders that have been active in creating these new neighbourhoods are: Mattamy Homes (www.mattamyhomes.com/communities/hawthorne) Coscorp Master Builder (www.coscorp.ca), Heathwood Homes (www.heathwoodtraditions.com), Arista Homes (www.aristahomes.com), Fieldgate Homes (www.fieldgatehomes.com), and Greenpark Homes (www.greenpark.com). The other builders active in Milton are: Beaverhall Homes, Century Grove Homes, Falconcrest Homes, Loganbrook Estates, Tiffony Park Homes, and Sundial Homes.
The newer neighbourhoods have been designed with the “community feel” in mind. There are lots of neighbourhood parks and walking/biking trails, splash pads, and new schools. The lot sizes are generally smaller than those in old Milton and the landscaping is starting to sprawl and grow. The homes have a modern design with lots of windows and many have large porches. These new neighbourhoods make up about one half of the population size of Milton.
