September Update, Last month statistics are now in the books and it was a typical end to the summer. 

The Bank of Canada has held interest rates at their current level of 4.5% prime, so this should keep mortgage interest rates at their current levels.

August 2006 was another good month.  Volume of sales were steady and average prices were slightly less compared to the previous month.  See the sales figures, read more

Average single family residential prices were down only slightly in August compared to the previous month.  This is normal for this time of year.  It is difficult to predict where the prices will go over the next month or two, but if patterns over the past years are any indication, prices will likely rise over the next month or so.

"Best" Mortgage Rates

As of September 9th the Prime Rate was

6.00%

Prime means "best," and this is the rate that banks charge their absolute best customers for loans. Changes in the prime rate influence changes in other rates, including variable interest rate mortgages. This rate fluctuates based on economic conditions. Some mortgage companies offer interest rates starting at Prime less .75%!
