Meadowvale of Mississauga

Meadowvale is a community located in the northwestern part of Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a village in Toronto Township. In the 1970s, Meadowvale was selected to be the name of a new town community for the newly (1974) incorporated City of Mississauga; the name was applied to a development a few miles west along Derry Road.

Geography
Meadowvale is located at 43°45′0″N, 79°48′0″W. The community is situated near the Credit River which lies to the east. Pine forests including other types of trees are along the Credit Valley which covers most of the central part of the subdivision. The Credit River flows to the east and to the south, actually southeast. Another creek named Levi Creek runs to the south and southwest and is a tributary of the Credit lying to the south.

History
The first housing developments near Meadowvale began near Levi Creek and continued to the south.

In the late-1950s, Highway 401 began construction south of Meadowvale and was opened several months later. The Industrial area which covers part of the area west of Meadowvale began in the late-20th century and continued in the 2000s. In the mid-1990s, the Derry Road By-pass began construction which runs nearly 1 km north of the Old Derry Road from Mississauga to near Mavis. On October 1996, the plan for residential areas which is near Levi Creek located between Mississauga and Derry. Construction began in the spring and was completed as late as 1998 or 1999. In mid-1998, Meadovwale and Levi Creek became connected with the 407 with two interchanges and later Mavis Road was extended to Steeles Avenue. Later, housing continued to boom southeast of Meadowvale between Mavis and Highway 401. Much of the farmlands to the north are disappearing to suburban housing. The industrial area southeast of Meadowvale is still building but most of the lots remain empty.

Farmlands until the early-2000s dominated the rest of Meadowvale, urban areas replaced along with some businesses.

Transport
Meadowvale is accessed via two 400-series highways, (Highway 401) and the electronically tolled (Highway 407). The industrial area is presently to the east and west of Mississauga Road.
