Update on cruise ship: The Oasis
Apparently, the largest cruise ship is now the Oasis from Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean is nearly finished building the biggest cruise ship to ever hit the water.
Oasis of the Seas, which will cost nearly $1.5 billion, is scheduled to make its maiden voyage on Dec. 1. It's five times the size of the Titanic and can accommodate 6,296 cruisers; almost 45 per cent more than the biggest ships now operating.
Included in the amenities are a park with 2,000 bushes and trees, a high-diving pool and a bar that moves up and down between decks. They'll also be doing a production of "Hairspray."
Specific "neighbourhoods" include Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone.
Tor Olsen, one of the ship's captains, said he hopes folks don't disembark at various island-stopping points.
"This ship itself is the destination," he said. "This is better than a lot of the islands."
Rates start at less than $800 per person double occupancy for a seven-night cruise. Of course, you also could book the two-level, four-person Royal Loft suite for a little more than $20,000 for four guests.
Some structures can easily be seen from far away. See another large man made structure, The Hollywood Sign
